Curiosity
The great poet Gabriele D’Annunzio is linked to Orvieto for having praised, on several occasions, the quality of the local wines. His literary history intertwines with that of Cardeto for an interesting reason. On October 13th, 1903, Gabriele D’Annunzio wrote “Alcyone”, and in one lyrical passage, he invented the word “rupestro”. A new adjective that best expressed the sensation of peering from the top - something known to every inhabitant of Orvieto - and which Cardeto has used to name one of its most important wines: “Rupestro Orvieto Classico”.
